Bruce Cassidy Named Jack Adams Award Winner
Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy was announced as the 2020 Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL’s coach of the year on Wednesday. Cassidy, who just finished up his third full season as head coach, led the Bruins to an NHL-best 100 points during the regular season, capturing the club’s third Presidents’ Trophy in its 95-year history.
Since Cassidy, an Ottawa native, was named interim head coach after the firing of Claude Julien in February of 2017, the black and gold have amassed a record of 161-66-34 during the regular season. Even more, in his three full seasons coaching the team, the Bruins have the second-most regular-season wins of any NHL squad (143), second only to the Tampa Bay Lightning (159) and the second-most playoff wins (25), second only to the Vegas Golden Knights (28).
The Bruins have a record of 27-28 in the playoffs with Cassidy at the helm including an appearance in the Cup final against the St. Louis Blues in 2019. This seems to be the only accomplishment that has eluded Cassidy so far and it’s clearly the only one he cares about:
Many questions surround the Bruins this offseason following a disappointing performance in the playoffs. Who knows what this team could look like by January? The only thing we (think) we know for certain is that Bruce Cassidy will be behind the bench, definitely not screaming at a referee after a missed call, still in search of that damn cup.
